Composting Awareness and Drop-off: 10am-3pm @ NMU Academic Mall

Mikayla, a Senior Environmental Studies and Sustainability Major from NMU, will have composting buckets set up in the Academic Mall to collect compost scraps for her capstone research project. She will also have information about composting during the year, and invites you to come drop off your scraps any day of the week during Earth Week. She will be weighing the scraps at the end of each day to see how many scraps the University can collect with awareness around composting at NMU.

On Earth Day, various environment/sustainability-minded clubs will be set up on the lawn, either with information about how to get involved with them, an interactive activity, or both! We'll be out from 12-4, feel free to stop by at any time! Masks must be worn correctly and social distancing followed for the entirety of the event.

Civilian Conservation Corps Documentary Screening: 6-8pm via Zoom

NMUCCL is hosting a virtual film screening this year about the history of the Civilian Conservation Corps. We will be presenting an informational presentation, educating viewers of what CCL and the Conservation Corps are, followed by a film about the history of the Civilian Conservation Corps and FDR's New Deal.

Turning Food Waste into Black Gold: 6-7pm via Zoom
Presentation by new composting experts and organized by NMU Gamma Theta Upsilon Honor Society
Scope 3 - downstream emissions, food waste composting. When institution calculate their carbon footprint, they can decide whether or not to account for their super-potent methane emissions from landfills. You’ll hear from Partridge Creek Farm about how they already help reduce NMU’s emissions by composting all pre-consumer kitchen scraps. AgriLab Technologies will also present their advanced aerated compost heat recovery systems and how NMU could partner with the city of Marquette to implement large scale food waste composting.
